The "ROUTE FINDER" function is the latest addition to the already comprehensive capabilities of the ADMIRAL Navigation System. For the hard pressed navigator this is a major advance in navigational planning tools. Simply type in the name of the port from which the vessel will sail and the name of the destination. Click on Calculate and a suggested route is instantly generated by the software. The ROUTE FINDER database contains hundreds of Ports from all over the world and thousand of waypoints. The ROUTE FINDER can be customised to take account of the vessels characteristics and whether inshore waters, narrow channels and canals are able to be used.
During trials the Navigator of a Superyacht said that the ADMIRAL ROUTE FINDER had saved him at least 2 days of work in planning a passage from Monaco to Miami. The ADMIRAL route took just 1 second to generate and under an hour to check, customise and edit to create the final route and voyage schedule. The waypoint coordinates are easily printed in a pre-formatted table. This could be e-mailed together with an overall chart to the charterer's office, owner or Regional Search and Rescue Centre.
As the Superyacht is also a subscriber to the Admiral Weather Forecast Service the route was checked against the weather forecast for the passage. The route can be edited very easily to avoid areas of heavy weather. The forecast is updated every 6 hours and offers regional or world coverage. Produced by the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts the data is distributed through the C-Map Real Time Update server. Once received the forecast is presented as an animated image over the chart presentation. Wind strength and direction, wave height, current, pressure, temperature and precipitation are individually or collectively selectable.
